The Daily Nom Food Philosophy

Welcome to my blog! My name is Justin and I like food (nom… But really, who doesn’t?). I created this page to give myself somewhere to write about the food that I am cooking, eating, and thinking about. This idea of The Daily Nom came about by wanting a space where I can share my recipes and experiments with other home cooks around the world.

I am a classically trained musician and I value practice and fundamentals. I carry this philosophy to the way I cook and think about food as well. I want to learn how to cook, not just the recipes. I believe that food is a wonderful way to communicate and share with your friends and family. The idea that you can show yourself artistically and nutritionally through the way you cook is truly special! Everybody does things a little different. Think about that soup your grandma makes, it’ll never quite be the same when it isn’t her making it for you. Cooking is much like any other art, we’re given all of the tools and techniques to create the final product. But it really is up to each chef to decide exactly when to take the protein off the heat, how long to rest it, when to season it. I believe that everybody can be a great cook and I challenge you to join me in this journey of having fun sharing food with yourselves and your loved ones!

I think that every person should learn how to cook. I mean, we do all have to eat. Might as well enjoy it while we’re at it. As much as I would love to spend a lot of money on every meal, it isn’t always feasible or financially responsible. But I believe that the most delicious food is made from the affordable ingredients! One of my favourite dishes I’ve ever eaten is a simple plate of fried rice that I had on a recent trip to Penang, Malaysia. It seems simple, but everything was regular staple ingredients in a pantry.

I will be posting recipes that I come up with, recipes that I follow, recipes that give me inspiration, and some extra information that I like talking about (things like what knives I’m currently using, sharpening, what pans I would like to try, etc).

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you here again soon!
